Lando Norris opens up on his on future beyond Formula 1

Lando Norris has opened up on his future beyond Formula 1 and how important it is for him to be remembered.

The McLaren driver is currently competing for the 2025 world championship, however, he has revealed his plans beyond his F1 career during an appearance on The Pivot podcast.

The 25-year-old commented when asked when he will know he has "done enough" in the sport:

"I mean, at 25 years old it's a big question. But, it is one I ask myself every now and then because I also do want a family when I grow up, and I wanna see my kids get into racing or soccer or football or whatever it is.

"I also see that life, and for me, I also don't know if I wanna be remembered in 100 years' time, or do I just wanna do it for my own personal achievement... that I went out and I won in Formula One, and I can tell that story to my kids and then they can pass that down and they can pass their stories down.

"But, I don't feel like I'm here because I wanna be remembered by everyone, or I wanna be known as the best in the world. I'm here to just enjoy my life and enjoy it, share it, and then pass it down.

"So, I feel like I have a different outlook on it compared to some. Some definitely have that opposite, like 'I wanna be remembered forever and all.'

"I kind of have no interest in that. I wanna enjoy my moment and then share my moments with others and kind of go from there."

Norris finished the Miami Grand Prix in second behind his McLaren team-mate, Oscar Piastri. Commenting on his race, in which he had hoped for more, he explained to the media:

"What can I say? If I don’t go for it, people complain," said Norris post-race about the opening lap clash with Max Verstappen.

"If I go for it, people complain so you can’t win.

"It’s the way it is with Max, it’s crash or don’t pass unless you get it really right and you put him in the perfect position, then you can just about get there. I paid the price for not doing a good enough job today."

He added: 

"It’s never the best feeling but the team have done an amazing job so I can’t fault them at all – good pit stops, great pace.

"We were up the road so it was a good feeling. Oscar drove well, Max put up a good fight as always and I paid the price but it’s the way it is."
