Giancarlo Fisichella set the fastest lap time of the winter tests on Friday, clocking a time of 1:18.49 in a Jordan-Honda. However, the talk along the pitlane was about the weight of the car -- it was generally agreed that Fisichella was driving an ultralight version of the EJ11.

Jordan has cause to be fighting for a victory in the "Winter Testing Championships," as the team is threatened with loss of sponsorship from its primary sponsors.

Not only is Deutsche Post concerned about the team no longer having a German driver in the cockpit, tobacco giant Benson & Hedges is also rumored to be considering termination of its contract.

And, there is no doubt, the Jordans of Fisichella and Takuma Sato have been flying in the tests. On Friday, Fisichella and Sato were the only two drivers to get close to Michael Schumacher's pole position time in the 2001 Spanish Grand Prix.

Fisichella's switch from Renault (nee Benetton) looks good right now, although the real test will come with the start of the season. The Italian veteran is confident, though.

"You may recall that Benetton had a difficult start to the season last year, but we managed to improve strongly," Fisichella recounted. "Everyone knows that I had the largest role in that development, and I felt I was an important link in is achieving at least some kind of results."
