Despite popular opinion, Eddie Jordan has denied that he has been in talks with Eddie Irvine in regard to a race seat at Jordan next year. Irvine's future is still unknown but Jordan says he intends to keep hold of Takuma Sato: as long as Japan supports its rising star.

"My view is absolutely," Jordan replied when asked in a webchat with ITV-F1 if he would be keeping Sato. "We do have a contract with him but corporate Japan have to make some future commitment and I'm sure they will."

"I really was quite tough with the Japanese media after the race as we have no support from Japan. Honda have been very good with this matter but no other factor of the Japanese commercial business did anything. If they want to keep him in F1 they're going to have to find some way of supporting him."

Jordan was pleased for Sato's fifth place finish in Japan: "His Japanese race was like Cinderella, a very special weekend for him. It made quite a difference to our income for next year so I was delighted for the team and for Sato as I think he got something he deserved."

As for the speculation about Irvine, Jordan said he had no idea where the rumour about the Jaguar driver moving to his team had come from: "I have heard this and I have had no talk with Eddie whatsoever about this and I don't know how this rumour started," he commented.
