The list of candidates for the undecided race seat at Jordan had another name added to it recently: Enrique Bernoldi. The 23-year-old Brazilian has been keeping a low profile since Arrows started its slow-motion implosion but now it seems he is being considered by Jordan.

Bernoldi tested with Sauber before signing with Arrows for a race seat in 2001. That season he might not have scored any points but he caused one of the talking points of the year by keeping the McLaren of David Coulthard behind him for many laps at the Monaco Grand Prix.

McLaren felt the Brazilian should have moved over to let Coulthard past but Bernoldi, quite rightly, refused to be intimidated as he was actually fighting for position, not being lapped. It was a great performance for an inexperienced driver at a circuit he'd never raced before, even if McLaren was peeved.

Since Arrows' financial difficulties got increasingly dire, Bernoldi was forced to sit out the last five races of this season with his future uncertain. Recently it was reported that he has been in contact with Jordan about a race seat next year: with his personal sponsorship from Red Bull, Bernoldi could be an interesting prospect for the team.

If the rumours are to be believed, Jordan would need to field about five cars in 2003 with the drivers that have been linked to it. Current driver Takuma Sato is not yet out of the picture while ex-Jaguar man Eddie Irvine, ex-Sauber hot-head Felipe Massa and BAR test driver Anthony Davidson are all names that have been mentioned in connection what is presently the hottest property in F1 race seats going.
