JORDAN'S BELGIAN GRAND PRIX WINNER JOINS THE DONINGTON COLLECTION
The Jordan Mugen-Honda 198 which Damon Hill used to bring the team its maiden win in the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix has been put on display at the world famous Donington Grand Prix Collection. This is the first time that a Jordan has featured among the world's largest collection of grand prix racing cars, belonging to Donington's owner Tom Wheatcroft.
The car made history at the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix when Jordan became the first team to achieve a 1-2 finish in its maiden victory, Ralf Schumacher following Hill across the finish line. The win was also Damon Hill's final victory in a celebrated F1 career and the arrival of his Jordan 198 kicks off a series of special exhibits and events to celebrate the Collection's 30th Anniversary year.
Jordan has a close relationship with Donington Park. Eddie Jordan is a long-standing friend of Tom Wheatcroft's, dating back to the days when Jordan raced in Formula Atlantic at the track in the 1970s, while Jordan's Director of Business Affairs Ian Phillips worked for Wheatcroft. Jordan Grand Prix celebrated its tenth anniversary in Formula One at Donington Park in 2000 by organising "EJ-10", a spectacular event attended by 20,000 fans.
"It's a great honour to have one of our cars included in Tom's collection at Donington," said Eddie Jordan, "and I'm delighted to be able to share our first race-winner with the public. Spa 1998 was an unbelievable experience and Damon's car has a special place in our hearts."
Tom Wheatcroft was presented with The Gregor Grant Trophy earlier this month, one of motorsport's top accolades, for his lifetime of commitment and contribution to the sport. He accepted the honour at the recent Autosport Awards ceremony in London.
Wheatcroft said, "It was a great honour to be given the Gregor Grant Trophy, and Eddie Jordan loaning us such an important car has really put the icing on the cake. It's been a great week."
