John Iley confirmed at Caterham F1 Team
Dec 14, 2011, 12:32 PM

John Iley has today been confirmed as the Team Lotus Performance Director.

John Iley has today been confirmed as the Team Lotus Performance Director. The teams name change to Caterham F1 Team will be confirmed on December 14th and the move from McLaren will see Iley rejoin his former Jordan and Renault F1 colleague Mike Gascoyne at the newly named squad.

Iley’s new title will see him take control of all aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) aspects of development heading into the new year and the pre-season tests. Having worked at both Ferrari and McLaren, Iley brings even more experience to Lotus’ growing roster of accomplished personnel as the team looks to improve on a successful 2011.

After a relatively short second spell at McLaren, Iley will be keen to advance his new employers on a prolonged basis. Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh expressed his wishes for Iley, “John greatly contributed to the aerodynamic capability at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes but has taken the decision to accept an offer from Caterham F1 team for 2012 and beyond. We enjoyed working with John and wish him well for the future.”

Team Lotus see Iley’s appointment as a big step towards a successful future as the outfit strives to break into midfield contention. “We are absolutely delighted that John has taken up the challenge we have offered him, to help take us to the next level on and off track in one of the key areas of performance in Formula 1. It is a real sign of our growth and development as a serious contender for long-term honours that we can attract someone of John’s calibre and we are all very excited about the contribution he will make to our future success from the moment he starts work with our team.” Added Riad Asmat, CEO of the Caterham Group.
