Jan Charouz, Lotus Renault GP reserve driver
As Lotus Renault GP unveiled its 2011 challenger in the pit lane of the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo on Monday 31st January, the team also presented its reserve driver line-up for the new season. Czech driver Jan Charouz has been announced as Lotus Renault GP reserve driver and now also integrates the Lotus Renault GP Driver Academy.
Lotus Renault GP Driver Academy is designed to prepare drivers for the demands of Formula 1 competition both on and off the track. Whether attending fitness camps, undergoing media training, or actually getting behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car, it will give drivers the change to develop a wide range of skills while building a relationship with the team. Also part of the 2011 Academy, and 2011 Lotus Renault GP reserve drivers, are Ho-Pin Tung and Fairuz Fauzy.
Jan was a member of the RF1 Driver Programme in 2010 and had the opportunity to complete a shakedown of the Renault F1 R29 at the Silverstone circuit in Great Britain. He also took part in the team's Roadshow in Rotterdam driving a single-seater. Finally, he was behind the wheel of team's 2009 car for a demonstration during the World Series by Renault in the Czech Republic and in Hungary in 2010.
Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov are Lotus Renault GP's 2011 race drivers; Bruno Senna and Romain Grosjean are the team's third drivers this season.
Jan Charouz, reserve driver and member of the LRGP Academy: "It's an amazing feeling to be part of the team and see the car; it looks amazing. I would like to thank the team for the opportunity and the support they are giving me and I hope that I will fulfil their expectations."
Antonin Charouz, Jan Charouz's manager: "I am very happy that Lotus Renault GP has extended Jan's contract for this season. From now it is up to him. He has got a chance, but he has to do everything one hundred per cent. Last season, after having spent three years in the sports prototypes races, Jan has been returning to single-seaters' series and has been gaining new experience. This year he has to exploit his experience and show what he can do."
