Williams Formula 1 team principal James Vowles has taken Nigel Mansell's championship-winning FW14B out for a test run ahead of his appearance at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

It was announced in May that Vowles, along with F1 Academy star Lia Block and Williams brand ambassador Jamie Chadwick, will take on the iconic hill climb in the car. Mansell himself is also set to make his fourth appearance at the event, which is celebrating 75 years of the sport.

The 1992 F1 champion, who is joining fellow legends of the sport such as Alain Prost and Mario Andretti, will also drive the FW14B as well as his race-winning FW11.

In preparation for the prestigious event, Vowles has taken the FW14B for a drive so he can become accustomed to the car.

"One of the most incredible days of my career. Today, I had the opportunity to drive Nigel Mansell’s championship-winning car, the FW14B, ahead of our trip to Goodwood," Vowles posted on social media.

"You dream of days like this, and that opportunity of a lifetime came today, just over 30 years since I watched this car race on TV. Today was special, but Goodwood will be on another level, with hundreds of thousands of people roaring as we climb that famous hill. I can’t wait to see you all there."

Commenting on his participation in the upcoming event, which is set for Thursday, 10 July - Sunday, 13 July, the team chief explained at the time of the announcement, "It’s fantastic news that Jamie, Lia and I will all be driving the FW14B up the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year. When you walk around the museum at our base in Grove, the 14B is the car that stands out.

"This is a dream come true; an iconic car, with such a huge list of success. The 14B had technology that was way ahead of its time, and it’s so well known for not only what it achieved but how it took the team forward. Taking it to Goodwood and having the honour of driving it is going to be incredible.”

Other F1 legends attending the event include Sir Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Mika Hakkinen, and Jacques Villeneuve.
