Jaguar Racing arrived in Valencia on Tuesday for the first part of a three day test session on the back of an encouraging performance in the cauldron of Interlagos.

Eddie Irvine, who described the performance of the R3 in Brazil as a 'big step forward', completed 31 laps of the circuit in setting the fourth quickest time of the session in 1m34.729s.

His time placed him ahead of the Willliams duo of Marc Gene and Antonio Pizzonia, Alexander Wurz's McLaren and Fernando Alonso's Renault.

This week's testing programme is aimed at maximising the development of the R3 ahead of the european legs of the F1 World Championship. Spanish driver Pedro de la Rosa will take over later in the week.
