The Jaguar Racing team announced last week that it is to take up the option of having an extra two hours of testing on the Friday of grand prix weekends.

Although the decision means that the team is restricted to fewer testing days away from race weekends, the advantages of deciding to take up the option outweighed the disadvantages according to Jaguar Racing Managing Director, David Pitchforth.

"We initially decided not to take up the option because we would only have 10 one car tests away from the circuit but then the FIA changed their minds to make it 20, so we said okay then let's do it," said Pitchforth. "It's not too different from what we were going to do with our testing schedule anyway. It will benefit us to have this extra time to set up the car for the circuit and certainly benefit Antonio who will get extra time to learn the new circuits."

Jaguar Racing driver Mark Webber also welcomed the decision to test for two hours on Friday.

"It will help us out in setting up the car and experimenting with different tyre compounds for qualifying and the race so I think it's a good idea to have the extra time on race weekends," said Webber. "On some circuits, like Hungary, where the track's always quite dirty there won't be a huge benefit, but for the most part I think we can only gain by taking the extra time."
