The Jaguar Racing team enjoyed a productive first day of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya on Tuesday as Mark Webber gave the R4 its first official run out.

Following on from a problem-free shake down of the Jaguar R4 at the Lommel testing facility at Belgium last Friday, Webber was once again behind the wheel of the new chassis with Antonio Pizzonia testing new components on the R3C.

Running alongside Ferrari, Jordan and BAR drivers, Webber set the third quickest time of the day to finish behind the Ferrari duo of Schumacher and Barrichello. The Australian managed a best lap time of 1m19.354s from 49 laps of the circuit.

"We arrived in Barcelona having accumulated good feedback from the initial shake down at Lommel," commented Jaguar Racing spokesman, Nav Sidhu. "We came here with a target and a plan of what to do and we achieved all of that today. It has been encouraging so far, but there's still a lot of work to do before we arrive in Melbourne."

Reigning world champion Michael Schumacher finished fastest of all but only after the German crashed backwards into the tyre barriers on his very first instalation lap.

Webber and Pizzonia switch roles for tomorrow's session with the Brazilian taking over behind the wheel of the R4.
