The Jaguar Racing team ran the brand new revised aerodynamic package with Eddie Irvine behind the wheel of the R3b in Barcelona today.

As the old saying goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day" and the Jaguar Racing team was certainly not expecting to blitz the field. The aim of the game, rather, was to dial in the car, work on new settings and to clock up valuable mileage for assessment.

In doing so, Irvine completed 50 laps of the circuit in setting a fastest lap time of 1m19.918s. Encouragingly for Jaguar, the session ended without incident.

That is rather more than could be said for Arrows, McLaren and Williams. Heinz-Harald Frentzen ground to a halt in the pit lane towards the end of the session and the other teams in question suffered spins.
