According to BBC sport, Turkish Automobile Federation chief Mumtaz Tahincioglu is considering the task of building a F1 circuit in Istanbul within three years. It will cost $60M to realise this dream of which the funds will come from the private sector.

Tahincioglu said that they were negotiating with the FIA to put the estimated $10M project in motion. He was quoted from the sports department’s website: “FIA looks on this project very warmly," but somehow Turkey has not taken this project to heart. My aim is to take on this project and overcome all obstacles."

Mr Tahincioglu said that the Turkish ban on tobacco shouldn’t pose a problem since there are other F1 hosting countries that with the same law.
