Eddie Irvine is hoping to try his hand at rallying with British driver Colin McRae in a deal organized by Ford. McRae drives a Ford Focus in the World Rally Championship and Irvine fancies trying his hand behind the wheel as well as having McRae take him for a spin.

"When I was a kid, I used to drive a Sunbeam up and down some dirt tracks but I've never driven a full-blown World Championship rally machine," Irvine said in the British press. "The details have not been finalised but I'd love a little blast in the car and then have Colin drive me around. Hopefully, he won't crash."

The final round of the WRC takes place in the UK in November and it's unlikely Irvine's rally effort will happen before then. Ford's director of motorsport Martin Whittaker would like to see the event happen: "Eddie has always wanted to experience what our rally car is like and we hope to grant his wish," he said.

It's still unknown where Irvine's future lies after being dropped by Jaguar Racing and the Irishman seems happy to keep everyone guessing. He's been linked with a move to Jordan for next season but for the moment there's no comment from the parties concerned.
