‘Impenetrable’ Hamilton claims off-track issues won’t affect him

Formula One World Champion insists latest split with girlfriend will not impact on-track performances.

Lewis Hamilton has declared that recent issues in his personal life won’t affect his on-track performance, as they have done previously.

Hamilton split with longtime girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger over the winter, and the last time this happened – in 2011 – Hamilton suffered an alarming dip in form, becoming embroiled in a number of on-track clashes.

He had also switched his management back then, and has recently dropped Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment to represent him going forwards.

But now, he says, it’s different.

"I’ve developed a mental attitude I would like to say was impenetrable," he said. “In the previous years it’s been the case where [off-track issues] affected my life in general.

“But I feel that I still carry that kind of mentality from last year and, while it’s not been easy, I feel stronger than ever.

“Having been in this position before, I don’t feel that it’s going to be a problem. I still feel like I’ve got enough in place to do what I need to do and to be the best I can be.”
