Salo and Katayama struggle in the second qualifying
Mika Salo and Ukyo Katayama struggled in the second qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Both drivers were happy with the balance of their cars but could not improve significantly their lap time and positions on the grid. Mika set the 16th time (1 min 21.624 sec) and Ukyo the 17th (1 min 21.702 sec).
Mika Salo: "Today was better than yesterday because I kept the car on the track! I am satisfied to have improved my lap time by three seconds, but I don t understand why we are slow compared to the others. I am always on the limit. The car feels fine except over the bumps."
Ukyo Katayama: "I really don t know what to do to set a competitive time. I am flat out everywhere. We tried different set-ups but still cannot improve our lap time significantly."
Harvey Postlethwaite, Managing Director - Engineering: "Ukyo and Mika did a good job today. They got the maximum out of the car. Both reported that the car had a good balance, but we were on the limit. It shows the problems we have. We already have a programme to address them but unfortunately we did not show any improvement here. We will work to get a consistent balance for the race. It has always been a difficult Grand Prix to finish, but we hope to have a reliable race with two cars at the finish and scoring some points."
Mr Kimura - Yamaha F1 Project Leader: "Today s qualifying results were a bit disappointing even though we improved on yesterday s times. On the engine front we have increased the rpm today and we are happy with the reliability."
