Hungarian GP: Rosberg fastest in FP2 as Hamilton crashes
Nico Rosberg celebrated his Mercedes contract extension by setting the fastest time in second practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix, as teammate Lewis Hamilton crashed out of the session.

Rosberg's position at the top of the times was effectively unopposed after Hamilton lost control of his car at Turn 11 and slithered sideways into the tyre wall.
Although he drove his car back to the pits, Mercedes elected not to run the car again while it carried out detailed technical checks. It meant Hamilton didn't get to run on the supersoft tyre.
Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo was second fastest, six tenths off Rosberg's pace, with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel in third, nine tenths back on the Mercedes.
The second Red Bull of Max Verstappen was fourth fastest, 1.3s off the quickest time, ahead of Hamilton.
Story of the session
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen set the early pace using the soft tyre on 1m23.218s, before Rosberg – who went off at Turn 4 on his opening lap – grabbed P1 with 1m21.961s.
Hamilton beat that, by one thousandth of a second, on 1m21.960s.
At the end of his first run, after setting a fastest first sector, Hamilton went off at Turn 11 as he lost control after clipping the kerb on turn-in – causing a red flag.
Despite thumping the tyre wall, with TV graphics suggesting a 10.4g 'spike' as he did so, after a few moments Hamilton pulled away and drove slowly back to the pits. He took a quick trip to the medical centre and didn't rejoin the session while the car was given a full technical overhaul.
After the session was restarted, Rosberg lapped in 1m20.435s on supersoft rubber to retake the top spot.
Ricciardo took P2 with a lap of 1m21.030s, 0.595s down on Rosberg. Verstappen was 1.335s off the pace on his supersoft run.
"I made a mistake in the last sector and went off the track, those things can happen – hopefully they happen today and not tomorrow," he said.
During his second attempt at a quick time, Verstappen had a huge lock-up at Turn 1 and ran straight on.
Vettel set the third-fastest time with 35 minutes remaining, a 1m21.357s that was 0.922s off the Mercedes pace. Vettel hit gearbox trouble early on, complaining that he "kept losing synch on this lap".
That dropped Verstappen down to fourth, with Hamilton's soft-tyre laptime good for fifth.
Raikkonen was sixth, ahead of McLaren's Fernando Alonso, who joined the session late and then had to have his floor replaced due to damage.
His McLaren teammate Jenson Button was eighth, just 0.06s slower.
The Force Indias of Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez were ninth and 10th respectively, but over 2s off the pace, with Esteban Gutierrez 11th for Haas.
It was a difficult session for Williams, as part of Massa's car fell off on his way to 12th place.
His teammate Valtteri Bottas was down in 14th, behind Carlos Sainz's Toro Rosso.
"I think something is wrong with the rear end, it's so oversteery," said Bottas on his first run, who made a late decision to pit and bounced across the kerbs, for which he was investigated by stewards.
Romain Grosjean was 15th for Haas, ahead of Daniil Kvyat's Toro Rosso and the Renault of Kevin Magnussen. Marcus Ericsson won the Sauber battle, well clear of teammate Felipe Nasr in 17th.
Plenty of incidents
Rio Haryanto spun his Manor at Turn 5, and later had to pit due to some tape getting stuck on his front-right wheel. He was 21st, three tenths behind teammate Pascal Wehrlein.
Gutierrez locked up and went straight on at Turn 1, and Magnussen spun off at Turn 2 without hitting anything. His teammate Jolyon Palmer had a wretched session, finishing 19th after only running in the last 15 minutes after a technical problem.
Nasr's Sauber suddenly slowed at Turn 2, forcing him to swerve off the track and into the escape road. Behind him, Sainz spun in sympathy.
Sainz then pulled off at Turn 1 a few laps later. "Something at the rear, something related to the engine," he reported.
