Team McLaren Mercedes driver Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest time of the day, with a 1:21.624 in the morning session, for round 13 of the Formula 1 World Championship, the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Finn completed a total of 16 laps and in the afternoon set a best time of 1:25.968.
Pedro de la Rosa was the fourth fastest of the day with his time of 1:22.730 in the morning session. His time of 1:24.252 was the 11th fastest of the afternoon and he completed a total of 17 laps throughout the day.
"When the Michelin tyres were new the car felt really good and was quick, but we struggled a little this afternoon on old tyres, and I think we need to try a different tyre tomorrow to see if that is better."
Pedro de la Rosa:
"We were running early in the morning in the first session to work out a base line for our set-up as there was rain threatening during the afternoon session. We only ran used tyres in the afternoon and have been working on the balance, but we are not satisfied yet and have to improve in tomorrow's free practice."
"As there was a possibility of rain in the afternoon session we decided to vary our programme accordingly. The low ambient temperatures and very clean circuit following this week's earlier rain has increased the challenge for both tyre companies."
"All cars suffered significant levels of degradation, but the true picture will not be apparent until the ambient climbs, which we expect to do tomorrow, and the circuit rubbers in. That said our pace this morning was competitive and our work this afternoon constructive."
"The morning session was good, however practice in the afternoon was difficult as we haven't found a suitable set-up yet."
