Hulkenberg unfazed by Raikkonen's renewal

Nico Hulkenberg says he was unfazed by the news of Kimi Raikkonen's new Ferrari deal because he always expected the Finn to stay on.

On Wednesday Ferrari ended months of speculation about Raikkonen's future by giving the 2007 world champion a new one-year contract for 2016.

The news means big driver moves are now unlikely, and Hulkenberg, one of the men linked to the Ferrari drive, said Raikkonen's new deal was not a surprise to him.

"Not really because I knew, I could see it coming," said Hulkenberg when asked if Raikkonen's renewal was disappointing.

"So if there is no expectation there cannot be disappointment. I was expecting it."

Hulkenberg, currently driving for Force India, says he remains optimistic of having a good car next year.

"Obviously that seat is taken but the rest, there are still a few good options out there I am confident that I can put something good together and that I will be here in a good car," he said.

Haas option

The new Haas F1 team, which will make its debut next year, has expressed interest in hiring Hulkenberg for its first season in F1.

The German driver has not ruled out a move to the American squad, but admits it would depend on what else is available to him.

"Obviously it depends on what options you have and how many," he added.

"But this is the time of the year. You talk to everyone and assess your options, you put things how you like them and then make your decision when the time is right.

"At the moment I am working quietly in the background and preparing everything."
