Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer has written the film score for the upcoming F1 movie, adding to his celebrated work. Known for composing the scores of blockbuster successes, including Interstellar, Gladiator, Inception, and The Lion King, he worked closely with Lewis Hamilton on the film's music.
F1, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, is directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The seven-time Formula 1 champion served as an executive producer, influencing the film and its score heavily, according to the composer.
"Being a European, I probably was more familiar [with F1] than most Americans because it was always a part of our culture," he explained to Variety. "And then, a few years ago, I don't even know how many years back, I met Lewis Hamilton, and we started talking. And when this movie came about, I was really starting to talk to Hamilton.
"And I think, in a funny sort of way, so much of the inspiration and so much of what I was doing came from my conversations with Lewis. I just want to give him credit. It was like he was always sitting beside me when I was writing."
The Ferrari Formula 1 driver documented his first meeting with Zimmer back in 2020. "I had the incredible opportunity to hang out with Hans Zimmer earlier this year," Hamilton wrote at the time. "Chances are, he’s scored some of your favourite movies. Getting to see his studio was amazing and get an insight into how he does what he does. It was such an honour and I’m forever grateful for the time he gave me. Such an inspiring individual."
The stars of the highly anticipated film several current F1 drivers and team principals walked the red carpet in Times Square on Monday evening at the world premiere.
The film is set for international release on 25 June before its release in North America on 27 June.
