Hamilton calls to 'embrace the change' after Ferrari switch

Lewis Hamilton has outlined the new year as one of "embracing new opportunities" as he begins life as a Ferrari Formula 1 driver.

The Briton ended his 12-year association with Mercedes - and a career-long affiliation with the German brand, which had been McLaren's engine supplier during his junior career and entry to the highest echelon of single-seater racing - to join the Scuderia for the upcoming season, partnering Charles Leclerc.

It marks a step change for Hamilton, who won six drivers' titles with the Silver Arrows before a lean spell under the current ground-effect technical regulatory era, with a new culture at the Maranello-based outfit awaiting.

In his first public comment since officially becoming a Ferrari driver at the turn of the new year, Hamilton took to LinkedIn to reveal: "I could not be more excited for the year ahead.

"Moving to Scuderia Ferrari, there's a lot to reflect on. To anyone considering their next move in 2025: embrace the change. Whether you're switching industries, learning a new skill, or even just taking on new challenges, remember that reinvention is powerful.

"Your next opportunity is always within reach. Here's to 2025 - a year of embracing new opportunities, staying hungry, and driving forward with purpose. Let's make it one to remember. Andiamo."

Hamilton's switch has not been without questions being asked, not least since comments where he said he is "definitely not fast anymore" after difficulties in Qatar Grand Prix qualifying.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur played down concerns over Hamilton's statement, insisting: "Have a look at the 50 laps that he did in Vegas.

"Starting P10, finishing on the gearbox of [George] Russell [in a Mercedes 1-2], I'm not worried at all."

Hamilton won two races last term, clinching a record ninth British Grand Prix victory before inheriting the triumph in Belgium when team-mate Russell was disqualified.
