MIAMI – (June 11, 2015) – Motorsport.com and the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) today announced preliminary results surrounding the Global Fan Survey, which concluded on Sunday.

The international survey was conducted by trusted sports intelligence leader Repucom and made available online at Motorsport.com to Formula 1 fans in 14 different languages.

A new record

According to Repucom, one of the world’s leading advisers in sports and entertainment intelligence, the GPDA survey was the largest sports-fan research poll ever conducted. Over 200,000 respondents – with participants from 194 countries – took part in the survey, which featured over 50 questions and average completion time was 25 minutes.

We will carefully consider the fans’ opinions, and will plan our further steps accordingly.

“Repucom has operated in the world of F1 for the past three decades and this is certainly the most comprehensive study into fan opinion and behavior in that time,” said Repucom’s Senior Vice-President – Motorsport, Nigel Geach.

“We have already begun our analysis, and together with the GPDA and Motorsport.com, we aim to provide a summary of initial results within the next six weeks. The final study promises to be an invaluable, considerable and enlightening body of work from and for the world of F1.”

The GPDA Global Fan Survey research will provide insights into race fans' characteristics, attitude, opinion, and fan experiences surrounding F1 racing.

“The participant numbers and global reach are very impressive – we are very happy that so many fans really wanted to voice their opinions – so in the name of all F1 drivers, thank you very much to the fans who took the time to complete our survey,” said GPDA Chairman Alex Wurz.

“Once the data has been processed and analyzed, the GPDA will discuss the findings internally. We will carefully consider the fans’ opinions, and will plan our further steps accordingly.”

More

The GPDA is the independent association of active Formula 1 drivers, formed in 1961, that has previously focused primarily on safety issues in the sport.

It chose Motorsport.com’s unique international network as its digital platform.

“We asked Formula 1’s fans to share their views and they did so in record-breaking numbers from all around the world,” said Motorsport.com’s Editor in Chief Charles Bradley. “We are thrilled to have such incredible participation and engagement, and applaud the fans who took the time to complete the survey.”

Motorsport.com and the GPDA will reveal the survey’s findings ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in July.
