German GP tyre selections announced

Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli has unveiled the 10 teams’ tyre selections for the 2019 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

Teams selected their preferred allocations of the designated soft, medium and hard tyre, which at Hockenheim will be represented by the most common C2-C4 compound range.

Despite the tyres being a step softer than at the most recent round in the British Grand Prix, Renault has once again made the unorthodox choice of just a single set of the medium for one of its drivers.

Daniel Ricciardo had one set of the yellow-walled tyres at Silverstone, briefly using it in the grand prix, but for Hockenheim it’s his teammate Nico Hulkenberg who will only have the mandatory race set of mediums available.

Both Ricciardo and Hulkenberg will have 10 sets of the soft, the joint-most in the field along with Toro Rosso pair Daniil Kvyat and Alexander Albon.

The two Ferrari drivers will have nine sets of the soft available to them, while the Italian team’s main F1 rivals Red Bull and Mercedes have gone for eight sets of the C4 for each of their drivers.

Pirelli is currently conducting a two-day 2020 tyre test at Silverstone in the aftermath of the British Grand Prix.

Pierre Gasly and George Russell have been driving for Red Bull and Williams respectively, with the latter set to hand over to Robert Kubica on Wednesday.
