The future involvement of BMW in Formula One is still open, from quitting the sport entirely or creating a team of its own according to former motorsport director Gerhard Berger. But the manufacturer would like to have a continuation of its partnership with Williams, if discussions come to an amicable agreement.

"For BMW, everything is still open -- everything from pulling out of F1 to building its own car," Berger told F1 Racing magazine. "But the intention is still to find a good solution with Williams."

BMW is rumoured to not be happy with the performance of this year's Williams FW25 and Berger thinks the team needs to concentrate on the aerodynamics department: "I think Williams have built a good car this year, a good concept," he said. "We know it's still struggling a bit aero-wise, but I think it's possible that the FW25 will get closer to the Ferrari in the months ahead."

"It is only aero that we're struggling with. If we could get that right, we would be on the front row. I think maybe Williams haven't invested enough on the aero side in the last few years. Maybe some other teams have paid more attention to the that, but they are building a new wind tunnel and they're not that far off."

Berger admitted that it was not inconceivable that BMW could decide to go into partnership with another team, but Williams is still its first choice: "It's not completely unthinkable," he commented.

"If for some reason you don't get along with a team, if you have a different approach, you have to see if somebody else goes with your ideas better. But before that it's clearly a case of finding a good solution with Williams."
