Giancarlo Fisichella has admitted he was talking to other teams for next year until he found out Jordan had secured a deal for Ford engines in 2003. Although this season has been tough for the Italian on his return to Jordan, he believes the Ford deal will improve matters. He is happy to have scored some points this year but said it's been hard and scoring more will not be easy.

"The first part of the year was really difficult. We were struggling with reliability, engine power, car balance," Fisichella told ITV-F1. "Then we got a new engine with more power and a few new parts and suddenly the car was much better, much more competitive."

"We had good races and scored points in Austria, Monte Carlo and Canada but it has still been very tough because all the other teams are becoming more competitive too. We've got two races left and it will be very difficult to score points but we'll give it our best shot."

Fisichella has high hopes for the new chassis design of Jordan's 2003 contender and the Ford engine: "I'm very pleased. The Ford engine is very strong, it's very light and hopefully the team will have a better budget too. Henri Durand and Gary Anderson are designing the new car and I have confidence in both of them. So I'm very confident."

"Yeah, I was talking with some other teams," he added. "But when I heard about the Ford engine, I decided that Jordan was my best option and so I'm staying for another year."
