Force India's 'unlucky' day in Hungary

Sahara Force India had a day to forget in Budapest with both cars retiring from the race at the Hungaroring circuit.

The Indian outfit for the second consecutive Hungarian Grand Prix left the race empty-handed. They head into the summer break seeking answers to their failures.

Last year, Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez collided with each other while today, Hulkenberg crashed out of the race after a front-wing failure and Perez retired due to brake issues later on.

"I didn’t have much warning that there was a problem with the front wing. There was a harsh vibration just before it broke and after that I was heading straight into the barriers," Hulkenberg said after the race.

"The final impact was not too bad because that part of the track is well protected and it absorbed the energy nicely," he added.

Until that point, Hulkenberg was having a great battle with the Red Bulls running seventh. On lap 41 when the German was chasing Valtteri Bottas and defending from Daniil Kvyat, his front-wing detached itself from the car on the start/finish line leading to his retirement.

Perez, on the other hand, had an eventful race which involved an incident with Pastor Maldonado for which the Venezuelan was penalised by the stewards.

"The first few laps were very strong and we made up a lot of positions, but the contact with Pastor [Maldonado] compromised my race," the Mexican said.

"I was as cautious around him as I could be and left him plenty of room but unfortunately it wasn't enough," on being alert when racing with Maldonado.

COO Otmar Szafnauer revealed that the contact with Maldonado resulted in some damage to the 'right side' of Perez's car and as he continued the race, his car suffered further problem with the long brake pedal because of which Perez ultimately retired on lap 53.

Both the drivers stated that they are still confident with the car's performance up until their retirement and head into the summer break with some confidence.

The team sits fifth in the championship with 39 points and Lotus are four points behind them.
