Benetton Formula One managing director Flavio Briatore confirmed today that Giancarlo Fisichella will be staying with the team for the 2001 season, when the team is to have the use of works Renault engines.

"Giancarlo has done a very good job this year, and from the moment I arrived back in the team, I saw the guy changing completely," said Briatore. "He has been very involved with the team and he has driven some very good races. I believe he will suit next year's Benetton."

On the other hand, Alexander Wurz will be looking for a ride, in addition to looking for his first World Championship point this year, as the team will not re-sign him for next season.

"I don't know what has happened with Wurz," mused Briatore. "It is very clear to everybody that he is in a very difficult moment. From now to the end of the season we would like to help him in the best way possible. But for next season we need to find somebody else."

The team is hoping for a major turnaround next year with factory engines. It currently uses Playlife engines -- more commonly known as Supertec, and also utilized by Arrows. The Playlife/Supertec engine, in turn is based on the Renault engine designs from the mid-1990s.
