Jordan's Ralph Firman is not guaranteed to race in this weekend's US Grand Prix and will decide after the opening session today (Friday). Firman crashed heavily in practice in Hungary and consequently missed that race and the following GP at Monza, due to an inner ear problem. He spent a day testing at Silverstone earlier this month but that's the only time he's had behind the wheel.

"There is no guarantee I will be fit enough to drive," he said. "I have to get over that first hurdle and see that I will be okay. I feel fine now but the proof of the pudding will be when I get back into the car. I will know pretty quickly if I am okay, after the first session."

The after effects of his accident caused some dizziness but that shouldn't be a problem by now. Firman visited a specialist who explained the symptoms. "I saw a specialist last Monday and he just said crystals had fallen off the inner ear and were in some canal, bouncing around, and that's what caused the fake vertigo. But that's completely cleared up now."

Formula One's other Ralf, namely Schumacher, also missed Monza after a crash put him out of action and he has not driven his racecar since then. But he is back in action this weekend and doesn't foresee any troubles. "I feel pretty well," Schumacher confirmed. "I guess there shouldn't be any problem."
