Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne believes the Italian team will be on par with Red Bull when the Formula One season starts in Australia in less than two weeks.
The Maranello-based squad had a difficult 2014 season, but seems to have made a step forward judging by its form during pre-season testing, where it looked like one of the leading teams behind Mercedes.
Marchionne says he is keeping his expectations in check, but reckons there is reason to be optimistic.
"The car is there, the drivers are excited. We will be on par with Red Bull when we get to the circuit," Marchionne told Italian media during the Geneva Motor Show.
"I don't want to be overoptimistic and I won't be critical.
"The guys have done an amazing job. We'll get to the track and then we'll see."
Marchionne does not expect instant success, however, and feels it will take time for Ferrari to return to the top.
"Winning the title in 2018? Absolutely, yeah, in 2018. But if it's possible we will try to do it before that."
