Second day of testing for Michael Schumacher at the Mugello circuit. After his installation lap, which took place at 12.48, the German driver ran into a problem which forced him to coast round to the pits having cut the engine. The session resumed after a three hour pause and finished at 18.00. Schumacher continued to work on the development of the new car, making various changes to the set-up. He covered a total of 45 laps, with a best time of 1.23.780.

"I am very happy with what we did today," declared Schumacher. "Despite the long stoppage, the results of the work we did were satisfying."

Also in action at Mugello was Sauber's Finnish driver, Kimi Raikkonen, who did 40 laps with a best time of 1.24.218.

Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro continue testing here tomorrow, with Rubens Barrichello taking over driving duties.
