Ferrari extends Fred Vasseur's contract as F1 team boss

Fred Vasseur will continue to be Ferrari's F1 team principal after agreeing a contract extension

Ferrari has renewed its contract with Formula 1 team boss Fred Vasseur, ending speculation about the Frenchman's future.

Vasseur joined from Sauber ahead of the 2023 season replacing Mattia Binotto and implemented a raft of behind-the-scenes changes to return the Prancing Horse to the top of F1.

Ferrari finished second in the 2024 constructors' championship but has since stagnated, with defending champions McLaren romping towards the 2025 crown.

It led to speculation from Italian media that Vasseur would be leaving at the end of his original deal, which was set to expire this year, amid alleged interest from Ferrari's top management in Christian Horner.

But Ferrari has now drawn a line under any future doubts by re-signing Vasseur on fresh terms in what is expected to be another multi-year deal.

"I’m grateful for the trust Ferrari continues to place in me," Vasseur said. "This renewal is not just a confirmation - it’s a challenge to keep progressing, to stay focused, and to deliver.

"Over the past 30 months, we’ve laid strong foundations, and now we must build on them with consistency and determination. We know what’s expected, and we’re all fully committed to meeting those expectations and taking the next step forward together.”

This news comes ahead of F1’s vast regulation changes next year, which Ferrari will enter with Charles Leclerc and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton as its drivers.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said: "Fred joined the Scuderia at the beginning of 2023, bringing with him extensive motorsport experience and a proven ability to develop talent and build competitive teams across all levels of racing.

"Since then, he has laid a solid foundation with the ambition of returning Ferrari to the top of Formula 1."
