Felipe Massa has likened his time as test driver with Ferrari to being at university and stressed how important it was for him to work with Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. Massa debuted in F1 with Sauber in 2002 but sat out competition this year in favour of honing his skills as a test driver with the current champions.

"The Ferrari team has been for me an incredible university," said Massa, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. "To work with Schumacher and Barrichello was very important. My experience today isn't comparable with that from one year ago."

Massa added that what he has learnt in the past year will be an advantage when he returns to competition with Sauber in 2004. "My knowledge of Ferrari will be important: my advice will help the engineers to work in the right direction. At Hinwil, nobody wants to disappoint in the 2004 Championship."

Massa was back on track in a Sauber at Jerez testing this week and the team's chief race engineer Jacky Eeckelaert was happy to see the Brazilian return. "Felipe had a good return to the team today. He, of course, still knows the staff and the way we work," he said. "It felt as if he has never been away from Sauber Petronas."
