Ferrari and fuel supplier Shell will reach a significant milestone in Singapore this weekend when the two companies rack up their 500th Grand Prix in partnership.

The relationship between the two international brands is one of the most long-standing in world motorsport and to celebrate the landmark the front and rear wings on both F2012s will carry special ‘500 races’ liveries throughout the race weekend, with several other events planned from Thursday onwards.

A special four-minute film will be shown to the media and feature interviews with key Ferrari figures including president Luca di Montezemolo, team boss Stefano Domenicali and both current race drivers along with its former world champion driver John Surtees and the first man to win an F1 race in a Ferrari back at the 1951 British Grand Prix, Argentine José Froilan Gonzalez, who is now 89 years old.

On Saturday afternoon in the pit lane a Shell-commissioned painting by renowned motorsport artist Michael Turner will also be presented to Domenicali and Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa to mark the long-standing partnership.

The landmark weekend comes just days after Ferrari achieved another milestone at Silverstone over the weekend when a world record 964 Ferraris took to the famous Northamptonshire circuit all at the same time.

The near thousand-strong parade of the famous sportscar was led round by Massa, driving a 458 Spider, and beat the previous Guinness World Record mark of 490 Ferraris set at the Fuji Speedway in Japan in 2008.

Ferrari donated £5 for every car in the parade to the British charity BEN, which supports employees from the motor industry and their families, and Massa said afterwards: “It was a really unforgettable experience.

“It’s a great honour for me to be here for such a special event, with so many cars all brought together on one race track, which produced an unprecedented spectacle for all Prancing Horse fans.”
