The Renault Formula 1 team has confirmed Robert Kubica will get a second test with the French outfit to "evaluate his driving capabilities".

Kubica had returned to the cockpit of an F1 car last month when he tested a Renault-powered Lotus E20 at the Valencia circuit.

As reported earlier this week, the Pole was set to get another run in the car, although no official confirmation had been forthcoming.

On Thursday, Renault said the second test will take place at the Paul Ricard circuit and, although it did not specify the date, Motorsport.com understands it will be next week.

Renault said the second outing was aimed at assessing "his capabilities to return to the highest level of competition".

"Whilst the first day of testing at Valencia was no more than to let Robert get reacquainted with the feel of driving again, this second test will be to assess his capabilities to return to the highest level of competition," said team boss Cyril Abiteboul.

"This is a new phase in his personal and professional journey and we are proud to support him in the form of lending our infrastructure at Paul Ricard that is suitable for professional and non-professional drivers.

"There are still many hurdles for him to overcome, and he knows better than anyone else that only his performance will determine if he can one day return to being a professional driver."

Kubica, absent from the sport since his rallying crash in 2011, said earlier this week he believed there is an "80 or 90 percent" chance that he will return to Formula 1.
