John Byfield, the head of Essentially Sport, has confirmed that the company will take over the management of Jenson Button. Byfield has a good reputation in Formula One and other areas of motorsport, the company provides a complete service for drivers, including tax, sponsorship, personal, legal and PR management. Byfield has given commercial and legal advice to many and has clients not only in F1 but also in Formula 3000, F3, CART and other series. Usually low-key, he says he made the decision to announce Essentially Sport taking over Button because the media speculation was distracting his new driver.
"It is not our usual policy to publicise Essentially Sport; we specialise in providing high-level strategic and confidential commercial advice to our clients," he said. "However, the intense media pressure and frenzied speculation as to Jenson's future and management structure has required us to take the unprecedented step, on this occasion, of making our own press announcement!"
Byfield has high hopes for his new signing: "Of course we are delighted to take on Jenson's management," he stated. "He is one of the shining lights of Formula 1 with enough natural talent and flair to bring Britain another Formula One World Champion."
Button recently parted company with his management team of David Robertson and Harold Huysmann and is happy with his new team.
"I am delighted that I have been able to secure the management services of Essentially Sport." He said. "I have worked with John Byfield for many years and have benefited first-hand from his in-depth knowledge and expertise in the Formula One arena. I feel that I am already benefiting from the team's efforts; leaving me to concentrate solely on my driving!"
