From the turbo adventure, through the first V10 engines to now, Bernard Dudot has seen it all. He was Deputy Managing Director at Viry until April 2005 -- and a proud man yesterday!

Q: Bernard, you participated in Renault's F1 adventure from the 1970s onwards. What does Fernando's performance mean to you?

Bernard Dudot: I have been lucky enough to be part of Renault's three lives in F1. The turbo period, when we built something unique and learned a lot. Then the V10 era, which allowed us to build on this and win world titles. Finally, this third period of Renault's return as a chassis and engine manufacturer. To see a 100% Renault car win the title is an unforgettable moment. I don't think it could have happened without what came before.

Q: What was the weekend like for you?

BD: For me personally, it was important to be in Brazil to see Fernando's championship winning race, even though I left the team last April. It was a powerful moment, after ninety endless minutes. I am proud to be a Renault man today.

Q: You know the RS25 engine by heart -- how would you describe it?

BD: We made of the most of all our experience in the design phase. One of the concept's biggest assets was that we were able to develop it very quickly. What's more, thanks to its mechanical simplicity, we were able to introduce lots of developments. Its performance is a new benchmark for Renault.

Q: You have known a lot of champions. Where does Fernando rank among them?

BD: You can't compare Fernando -- he is simply himself. He is young, but has an incredible level of maturity. He might sometimes appear a little cool or distant, but he knows how to motivate an entire team. That is a useful ability!
