Robert Doornbos will start tomorrow's 53 lap Japanese Grand Prix on from 18th position. Just like teammate David Coulthard, Doornbos' best lap time of 1:32.402 in the first qualifying session does not make the first cut.

With both cars lining up on the ninth row on the grid, Red Bull Racing will now be focussing on selecting a strong strategy in order to progress through the field. Already in the third and final free practise session on Saturday morning, it is clear that both Red Bull Racing drivers are struggling to find a good grip level on new tyres at the 5807 meter long track.

By finishing 16th and 17th in this session, both Coulthard and Doornbos realize that the key to a good qualifying performance is probably in the hands of the tyre manufacturers. Though Doornbos pushes hard in the first qualifying session, the 25-year old Dutchman has to settle for 18th position on the grid.

Robert Doornbos: "It's a pity we could not qualify better today, but this was just the max we could get out of it. It seems we're more competitive over longer stints, so we'll now be concentrating on our race strategy. Tomorrow is a new day with new chances!"
