Damon Hill signs for TWR Arrows
Current Formula 1 World Championship leader Damon Hill has signed with TWR Arrows to lead the team for the 1997 season.
Hill and TWR Arrows Team Principle Tom Walkinshaw first made contact after the Italian Grand Prix. After several discussions during which it was made clear that both men shared similar objectives for 1997, Hill agreed terms at TWR's impressive Technical Centre in Leafield, Oxfordshire, yesterday (Thursday).
Tom Walkinshaw: "It goes without saying that I am delighted that Damon has agreed to join TWR Arrows. Considering the other attractive options available to him, by joining TWR Damon obviously recognises the potential of our team."
"Damon's abilities are beyond question. He stands on the verge of his first world title, he is a proven winner over several seasons with 20 Grand Prix wins from 66 starts - a quite outstanding strike rate. His speed, experience ad technical focus will be of enormous value. The team's goal is to be Formula One World Champions in the shortest possible time. Damon's recruitment brings the day when we achieve that goal considerably closer."
Damon Hill: "With the benefit of four competitive seasons driving in Formula One and with the World Championship within my grasp, Tom Walkinshaw has offered me the position I was looking for : to play a key role within a dynamic, committed team with the right resources to be winners in the very near future."
The signing of Damon Hill is another key element that will enable TWR Arrows to mount a serious World Championship challenge in the near future.
An announcement regarding TWR Arrows' technical partners will be made before the Japanese Grand Prix in two weeks' time.
