It was a very wet start to the Japanese Grand Prix for Jaguar Racing and the rest of the teams as the opening practice was held in teeming rain throughout the whole hour of the session.

So treacherous were track conditions that many drivers didn't even complete a full lap. This included all the Jaguar drivers. Christian Klien did three out laps, Mark Webber two. Test driver Bjorn Wirdheim didn't run at all.

"They were crazy conditions," said Webber. "It was hard work just keeping the car in a straight line. There was no point doing any more than we did."

"If it's still like this this afternoon, then we will run," said Dr Mark Gillan, "but we're hoping that the rain will have least have eased off by then and we can do something a bit more representative."
