It was announced on Friday June 30 that David Coulthard will remain at the West McLaren Mercedes team for another season, irrespective of many rumours saying he would not be retained by the team.

Speaking on such, he said he can now focus on winning the World Championship and forget idle gossip of who will be going where next year.

"Now I am free to focus everything on winning the world championship. It is good to get all the speculation out of the way. Making the decision early will stop all the talk about who is going where next year".

He added that his team have failed to get the job done during the first half of the season, but that they will work incredibly hard from now on to rectify the situation. He has a twenty-points deficit to Schumacher, which he must begin to claw back this weekend in France.
