CHANDHOK TO DEMO RED BULL FORMULA 1 CAR IN KOREA
Thursday, August 26: Indian Formula One driver Karun Chandhok will have the distinction of being the first Formula One driver to taste the all new Korea Grand Prix circuit when he demo's the Red Bull Racing Formula One car on the new track. Chandhok, a former Red Bull Junior Team member tested for the Red Bull F1 team a couple of years ago and is currently with the Hispania Racing Team in Formula 1.
Chandhok has been asked by Red Bull Racing to demo the car as the team's regular drivers are unavailable due to prior commitments. Red Bull Racing is currently leading the Formula One World Championship in both the drivers and constructors titles, with drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.
Chandhok commented, "Red Bull Racing and I know each other from my days on the Red Bull junior program. They gave me my first F1 tests back in 2007 and I have carried on my personal link with Red Bull this year as well. The team's regular drivers weren't available due to prior commitments so I was happy to fill in. It'll be a real honour to be the first driver to drive around the new Korean circuit. The layout looks quite good fun on paper and I look forward to driving a race winning car there next weekend."
Red Bull Racing's running show car is set to complete a lap of the all-new Korean Grand Prix Circuit on September 4, 2010 as part of an event called 'Circuit Run 2010'. More than 3,000 people are expected to be present at the Saturday event to hear the roar of an F1 car for the first time on the circuit in Korea. Korea's inaugural F1 Grand Prix is scheduled to take place this year from Oct. 22-24.
