Force India has announced that GP3 and Formula 3.5 driver Alfonso Celis will take part in the post-season Abu Dhabi test, as he embarks on a development role with the team.
Celis, who comes from Mexico, will take on development driver duties – which will include simulator running and seven free practice sessions next year.
Speaking about his opportunity, Celis said: “Ever since I started racing I’ve been dreaming of Formula 1, so it’s a huge honour to begin working with Sahara Force India.
“It’s an amazing opportunity for me to learn about F1 and to work closely with the engineers and race drivers."
Being on the track in Abu Dhabi will be an incredible feeling. It’s going to be the biggest moment in my career and I am fully focussed on doing a good job for the team.”
Celis, 19, is a podium finisher in GP3, having taking third place at Spa with ART in his sophomore season in 2015.
He also raced with AVF in Formula Renault 3.5 and will continue representing the Spanish squad in the 2016 edition of the rebranded Formula 3.5 series, lining up alongside Tom Dillmann.
The backing for Celis' role is likely to come from his food magnate father Alfonso Celis Romero, himself a racer with two wins in 24 Hours of Mexico under his belt.
