BAR boss David Richards thinks a return to the CART series would do Jacques Villeneuve good and could kickstart his ailing career. Team Players' boss Jerry Forsythe recently hinted he might be looking to entice Villeneuve back to the US for a season while BAR work on developing the F1 car.

"I think he would be in a dominant position there," Richards said of the possibility of Villeneuve heading back to CART. "It would do him a lot of good and kickstart his career again if he came back to BAR. It's a mental approach, once you get into a winning routine it helps all round."

Craig Pollock, Villeneuve's manager, denied the move would happen, saying it would be a step backwards in the Canadian's career but Richards doesn't see it that way: "I certainly do not think a season in CART will end Jacques' career," he told Motorsport News. "I think Craig was saying things off the cuff without thinking about them seriously."

Richards caused a bit of an upset when he publicly commented that Villeneuve's large salary could perhaps be more wisely spent in the team. Although he later said the remark was not an insult to Villeneuve, he obviously has the team's financial interests to the forefront.

"We have a finite amount of resources," he said. "And it's where you spend them most appropriately that really determines your success in the long term."
