DHL Jordan Honda endured a trying day with both drivers encountering problems which prevented them from completing four qualifying runs. Giancarlo Fisichella lost the first practice session and most of the second session due to the failure of an engine sensor, which was replaced before the end of practice. Both drivers' engines were changed before qualifying, for increased performance, however Fisichella had an engine failure on his first run and eventually qualified in 17th place with the T-car. Takuma Sato lost his second run due to a faulty nose fixing but went on to qualify 14th after the nose was replaced.
"It was a tough qualifying for the team. I had a problem with the nose on my second run and the team is investigating the reason. My first run wasn't bad but then the car had a lot of nervousness in high speed corners. The track temperatures were rising all the time and the tyres were graining, so I lost grip and couldn't improve on my time. I think I did a 100% job but another tenth could have put me a couple of places higher."
"Obviously this was a terrible day for me, compared to yesterday. We had problems this morning and I lost the first session and most of the second session, doing less than 20 minutes on the track. During my first qualifying run, the engine went, and I am very disappointed. I went out to continue the session in the T-car, but it did not give quite the same feeling. I hope there will be no more problems tomorrow and that weather conditions will be wet."
GARY ANDERSON DIRECTOR OF RACE AND TEST ENGINEERING
"Needless to say that was a bit disappointing. On Giancarlo's first timed lap he lost the engine and we never really got to terms with the T-car. Takuma did a very competent job and we have to accept that today's performance is where we are."
The T car is set up for Takuma Sato for tomorrow's race.
