A one-year apprenticeship in the UK awaits Canadian Félix Lamy this fall. Renault's Formula 1 team and Infiniti's road cars specialists are teaming up to give him a behind-the-scenes view of engineering.

"It's going to be an extraordinary experience," the McGill University student told Motorsport.com. "Working in an environment as intense as F1 and helping develop road cars is going to give me a broad view of engineering."

Lamy is set to enter F1 through a six-month stay at Renault's Enstone factory. "I'm going to have an actual job there, with real responsibilities," he revealed. "I don't know what they have planned for me exactly, but I hope it involves lap or handling simulations and tire modelling, which I'd like to do more of."

During another six-month stay, at Infiniti's Cranfield base, he will focus on technology transfers between F1 and road cars. "That's going to help me understand the specific challenges faced by engineers in different fields."

To enter Infiniti's Engineering Academy, the Gatineau (Québec) native entered a Canada-wide contest. He edged nine finalists during the last stage of the competition, two months ago in Montreal. "I think my experience working with race teams [in F1600, F2000 and CTCC] these past four years really set me apart."
