Jean Todt "We could have done a bit better. Although we know we are slightly lacking in qualifying performance, the gap we see today is not totally realistic. We chose to run on hard tyres to be in better shape for tomorrow's race. With one car on the second row and the other on the third, I think we can be more competitive. It is bound to be a tough race."

Michael Schumacher "I did not expect to be one second off the pole time. We had hoped to be competitive right from the start of this season and it seems we have not achieved that. It is unlikely that we can close the gap between now and the race. However, we have improvements to come once the championship moves to Europe. We have to continue working hard to catch up."

Eddie Irvine "I am quite pleased with sixth place, because I was a bit worried that we had not been very quick in the morning. With an extra set of tyres I could have improved my time. We are in a strong position for the race. The reliability of the cars in front of us has not been proven and we are ahead of those cars which do seem reliable."
