The West McLaren Mercedes team claimed its first points of the 2000 season when David Coulthard finished second in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Mika Hakkinen retired on lap 29 with an engine problem while leading the race.

MIKA HAKKINEN
'Obviously the word disappointed can't describe how I feel. We have been quick throughout the weekend so I'm not happy to leave Brazil without any points. We have some work to do before the start of the European season.'

DAVID COULTHARD
'Given the circumstances I'm happy with six points to kickstart my Championship challenge. I lost third gear after only a few laps and also experienced a problem with the radio, which meant I was unable to communicate with the team during the race. I believe we chose the right strategy and if the race had been trouble-free I'm sure we could have scored more points.'

RON DENNIS
'A remarkable drive from David who after the first 20 laps lost third gear which precluded him from attacking for the lead. Mika had an engine oil pressure failure while leading. We were extremely comfortable with our one stop strategy, which with healthy cars would have got the job done.'

NORBERT HAUG
'Mika did everything right and with our one stop strategy he was looking comfortable. Unfortunately again an engine problem prevented him from achieving the result he deserved. Considering David's gearbox difficulties he drove a fantastic race. Anyway we don't give up and we will come back strong.'
