Apple Original Films' F1: The Movie has now become the highest-grossing original film of the year as it hits $605.9million at the global box office as of 27 August 2025, according to Box Office Mojo. With Brad Pitt starring as Sonny Hayes, direction from Joseph Kosinski, and almost complete access to Formula 1, it's no surprise that this movie has seen such levels of success.
In a market that is almost entirely dominated by franchise properties such as Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts, this original film has managed to carve out its place on the silver screen.
Overtaking Sinners, which held the record previously so far this year with a gross of $365.8million globally, F1 becomes the first major success for the technology brand, which saw limited success from its first two productions, Ridley Scott's Napoleon ($218million) and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon ($157million).
It also became Pitt's most successful project, beating World War Z, which earned $540.4million in 2013.

China led foreign markets at $59.2million, followed by the United Kingdom ($29.5million), France ($24.7million), and Germany ($17.2million). The film's IMAX sales contributed a whopping $84.7million to the total gross - an impressive number considering how few IMAX screens are available.
“The F1 movie from Apple debuted to well-deserved accolades, marking the largest box office theatrical release for any streaming service and captivating audiences of both core and new F1 fans alike,” Stefano Domenicali said.
“Cultural moments like the F1 movie alongside exciting on-track action are generating strong viewership trends and especially robust social and digital engagement, including a record number of social impressions delivered by content posted on official F1 channels.”
Opening to $57million domestically and $146.3million worldwide, industry analysts didn't expect it to reach the heights it has just reached.
