Bottas dismisses Toro Rosso threat
Valtteri Bottas doubts Toro Rosso will be a threat to the top Formula 1 teams in the Spanish Grand Prix – despite their shock qualifying form.
Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen caused a surprise by securing the third row of the grid behind Bottas, but the Finn thinks that Toro Rosso does not have the race pace to help the duo stay there.
"We do not expect them to be a threat tomorrow," said Bottas, who qualified fourth. "We think we still have better race pace than them.
"They have made a good step forward, but I think in the race we are stronger.
"You can never underestimate any team, but from what we see on Friday we think we should be clear of them."
Bottas reckons that fourth place was the maximum possible for Williams, and believes that key to being able to challenge Ferrari will be a good strategy.
"I think we have improved again small steps and going in the right direction with that," he said.
"We know for sure Ferrari has quite a good edge in race pace, and they are much stronger in the race. So it is up to us with the strategy.
"It is a difficult circuit to overtake so maybe we can keep one of them behind."
