BMW motorsport director Gerhard Berger is considering his future in the role and said he will think about whether he wants to continue once this season is over. The former F1 driver has been in charge of BMW's sporting division since 1999.

"The job of a motorsport director can't be for the rest of my life," Berger said. "In the winter, I'll make the decision if I will extend my contract with BMW, or if this is the right time to quit." Should he quit, Berger added he was not likely to remain inF1: "I definitely can't imagine taking another job on the F1 scene."

The Williams F1 team, who BMW supply with engines, are also already looking ahead to the future. Technical director Patrick Head said most of the engineering information gathered from the remainder of this season will be used towards next year's efforts.

"The greatest part of our engineering attention is now towards next year," Head commented. "We obviously want to try to finish second and third in the drivers' championship and second in the constructors' championship. But all the information will go ahead to next year."
